Electrostatic technology is based on the principle that “opposite charges” attract and “like charges” repel, meaning two positively charged things will repel each other. Using this natural electrostatic phenomenon, various manufacturers have developed highly effective new tools within the cleaning industry, one being the electrostatic sprayer.
So, how exactly does it work? With the electrostatic sprayer, water is mixed with disinfectant and is sprayed out with a positive electric charge. This electric charge makes the mixture act as a magnet to any negative or neutral surface that is sprayed. Because of this, the disinfectant spray nestles its way into every nook and cranny and stays there to kill the virus or bacteria. The spray tip used with the spraying unit determines the droplet size of the product, based on the EPA-listed dwell time. Lastly, the disinfecting product dissipates/dries and leaves most all surfaces spotless and disinfected.
Electrostatic disinfectant spraying is listed under the CDC’s cleaning and disinfecting guideline, and is overall an extremely effective way to combat the presence of COVID-19. Additionally, it is important to note that the CDC recommends a detailed clean to remove all gross debris, followed by the spray. So be sure to have your space professionally cleaned prior to the use of an electrostatic sprayer!
